Preventing Osteoporosis Keeping and Building Strong Bones
Osteoporosis...for some women it is a reality that they are dealing with, for others, it is a possibility. There are many things that can cause this dis-ease and imbalance; poor diet, lack of weight bearing exercise, poor lifestyle choices, ethnicity and the list goes on. Osteoporosis usually affects post-menopausal Caucasian women of slight build, although all women can be affected.
The good news is there are many things you can do WITHOUT taking drugs to improve the strength of your bones. If you listen to the ads for those "bone health" drugs that are on TV with all of the side effects and warnings, it makes one go running for natural solutions instead. And why not, it only makes sense that the body needs some help when it is showing signs of dis-ease, imbalance, or stress but no drug has ever addressed the root cause of disease, it just places a "band-aid" over the problem and masks the symptoms.
Introducing a drug made of a foreign substance is not what your body is lacking. Why would one want to take an osteoporosis drug that causes more problems than it is solving? Bodies have been known to have a low nutrient count, low calcium, etc. but no body has ever had a lack bisphosphonates which is and ingredient some of the medications on the market contain.
Now is the time for us to take into consideration our bone density. Have a bone density test to see where you are. Evaluate your risk for this dis-ease and then take action. No one wants a fracture or broken hip to stop or slow us down. If you truly think through the ramifications of having a broken bone at this age of life, you will want to make sure it doesn't happen.
Vitamin D3, Calcium, and certain herbs along with some weight bearing exercise (walking is the very best!) can help stop this imbalance in your body and make improvement to your bone health. If you smoke, please please consider stopping! It is the most healthful thing I have done outside of supplementing my diet with nutrients. Five years ago and four months before my first grandchild was born I made the decision to quit smoking, determined that my grandkids would never see me with a cigarette in hand.
