Aging Gracefully Accepting What Is
Aging Gracefully, a promise to ourselves for our next days and years. Challenges met, hurdles crossed, grief expressed, tears shed, and probably more to come. But still, at our core is the grace we were born with, the spirit that moves us forward.
Don't trust anyone over 30...did we really say that, did we really believe that? And now here we are right in the middle of those untrustable ages... where did the time go?
We're OK, we are just doing fine, and we are trustworthy! We have lived incredible lives up to this point, and have the whole second half of our lives in front of us to do with what we will.
Accepting this time in our lives is a great and wonderful gift, a realization that we have accomplished much and there is still so much more to explore and do. Now is the time to have experiences we may have been too busy for in the past, now we can breathe deeply and take a second look at what may have passed us by.
It's not too late, in fact it is just the right time! We have earned every laugh line, every worry frown etched or being etched on our faces. Being aware of that is the essence of aging gracefully. It's OK...its part of who we are and the lives' we have lived...it took all of our past experiences to get us to the very place we are at in this very moment in time.
As Eckhart Tolle would say, this is the "Power of Now!" The present, this very moment is all we really have. Regretting or worrying about the past or the future is only wasting the now moments we have. Let's forgive ourselves if we need to about any regrets about the past, let's look forward to the future, but let's LIVE in the moment. Accepting what is, what has been and what will be, helps us to age gracefully, knowing things will work themselves out, as they always do, and for our highest good.
What can we do, at this stage of life to help others? That is the question that pops up in my mind so often. What work can I do that will be meaningful, helpful, and satisfying?
There are so many options, from volunteering at a local orginazation, food bank, meal on wheels, community center, to holding and rocking at risk-babies at the local hospital. There are opportunities at every turn.
Aging Gracefully is knowing our own sense of place and power, our, who we are, what we can contribute to the world around us...it's a great place to be!
"If there is radiance in the soul
it will abound in the family.
If there is radiance in the family
it will be abundant in the community.
If there is radiance in the community
it will grow in the nation.
If there is radiance in the nation
the universe will flourish." ~ Lao Tsu
